Staying in Control: Rule Your Spirit, Sis
Sisters, let's discuss the importance of controlling your spirit, recognizing the signs that you're not in control, and methods to regain that control, even during challenges.
🙋🏽♀️Welcome, my Beautiful Black and Brown Sisters!
Sisters, let’s be honest. Life can be challenging. You’re trying to walk in faith, stay prayerful, and shine your light, but then something happens. Someone lies on you. The job dismisses you unexpectedly. A friend or loved one betrays you. A storm hits your house or your heart. Suddenly, the fruit of the Spirit feels more like seeds in dry soil. During difficult moments, it’s common to react with pain, frustration, and anger, allowing negativity to take over your thoughts and emotions.
However, the Word reminds us that a woman who cannot control her own spirit is vulnerable, like a city without walls—open to attack, unprotected, and exposed. Yes, every unforeseen situation or circumstance that comes upon us is different. But we must stay in control amidst it all. Let’s explore why governing your spirit is important, how to recognize when you’re losing control, and how to restore your strength in righteousness.
Why You Must Rule Over Your Spirit
1. Spiritual Control = Spiritual Power
Sisters, when you lose control of your spirit, you allow the enemy access to your peace, decisions, words, and future. Controlling your spirit means staying consistently aligned with the Lord’s commandments no matter the circumstances.
2. Your Emotions Shouldn’t Run You
Sisters, the Most High God gave you emotions as indicators, not dictators. Feelings come and go, but Most High truth remains forever. When you stay in control, you silence the lies the enemy speaks through emotional chaos, allowing you to use wisdom and logic.
3. You’re a Representation of Christ
Sisters, whether you realize it or not, others watch how you handle difficult times. Make sure your responses point them to Christ and do not cause them to stumble. Your light should shine brightly even on tough days. As followers of Christ, we must learn to strive each day to face our tribulations cheerfully.
Sisters, Here Are Signs You’re Not Ruling Over Your Spirit:
• You snap quickly, even over small things.
• You replay arguments or offenses repeatedly in your mind.
• You avoid praying because you’re too angry to talk to the Most High.
• Your peace is stolen by every text, comment, or confrontation.
• You’re easily offended and spiritually drained.
• You constantly justify actions or words that don’t reflect the fruit of the Spirit.
• You keep grudges locked in your mind.
When you’re losing control inside, it eventually appears outside. Your spirit gets driven by reactions rather than righteousness.
How to Rule Your Spirit
1. Be Slow to Speak, Quick to Listen
Sisters, don’t let pressure rush you. Silence is a form of strength. Take a moment to pause and pray before you react. Think carefully before speaking, and take a few deep breaths.
3. Guard Your Mind from Evil Communication
Sisters, evil communication corrupts good manners. Stay alert to negativity, whether it comes from people, social media, television, or music. Protect your mind from harmful influences in conversations, media, and your environment.
4. Study and Meditate on Scripture
Sisters, when you stay rooted in the Word, your spirit becomes harder to shake. It is important to STUDY the scriptures, take notes, and highlight scriptures. This is the only way to show yourself approved to the Lord. This is how you build your spirit and your mind against evil to stay in control of your spirit.
5. Pray, and Lean onto the Lord for Help
Sisters, remember you don’t have to face it alone. Pray to your Father in Heaven three times a day and cry out loud for strength, comfort, and guidance.
Sisters, there is No glory without grit. And no fruit without fire. But no matter what comes your way, you can rule your spirit through the power of Christ.
You are not Powerless.
You are not Unprotected.
And you are certainly Not alone.
Stay rooted. Stay ruled. Stay real. Stay Faithful.
Scriptures to Meditate on:
“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”(Proverbs 16:32 KJV)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 KJV)
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” (James 1:19 KJV)
Prayer:
Our Father God in Heaven, we thank you so much for your grace, guidance, and protection. We ask that you continue to purge out our iniquity. We pray that you strengthen our faith and spirit, so we can rule over our emotions and not allow the enemy in. Please continue guiding us and surround us with Your angels as we follow You, Oh Lord.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
